Robinson Helicopter celebrating 50 years
Robinson Helicopter will celebrate 50 years in business this June. The company was founded by Frank Robinson on June 20, 1973 with the intention of designing and making reliable helicopters as efficiently as possible, without compromising the quality of the aircraft.
R22
The company’s 2-place R22 received FAA certification in 1979 and began a new generation of helicopters. The model was affordable and training was uncomplicated, making private helicopter ownership more possible. By 1988, the R22 became the world’s top-selling civilian helicopter.
R44
The 4-place R44 was introduced in the early ‘90s and quickly became another success for the company. The R44 has remained the world’s top-selling civilian helicopter since 1998.
R66
Robinson expanded its line again in 2010 with the turbine-powered R66, the new star of the company. It was designed using the same template as the previous two models but offered an increase in capacity, high-altitude performance and runs on jet fuel. Sales for the R66 surpassed those of the R44 Raven II in 2021.
