Switzerland-based aircraft manufacturer Pilatus announced a new record of 152 aircraft delivered in 2021. Pilatus saw a growth in sales of 19% and a 35% higher operating result compared to 2020.
Of the 152 aircraft delivered by Pilatus in 2021, 45 were PC-24s, 88 PC-12 NGXs, 17 PC-21s, and 2 PC-6s.
Europe was the region with the highest number of sales, claiming 41.9% of orders, but America was a close second at 40.8%.
Despite the success the manufacturer experienced in 2021, it still felt the effects of COVID-19 last year, which caused many disruptions to production.
Supply shortages of raw materials and complex components have plagued Pilatus since the end of 2020, and issues with quality only compounded the supply chain disruption. While the company managed to avoid a production stoppage, it did note that its efficiency has, and continues to, suffer.
While Pilatus noted the difficulty in finding skilled individuals to fill its workforce, it still managed to add over 120 employees in 2021.
“Thanks to a great deal of hard work and flexibility, we achieved a very good result of which the entire crew may be justifiably proud,” said Markus Bucher, CEO of Pilatus. “Demand for our products and services has rarely been so high. Meeting customer expectations despite unreliable supply chains and continuing deglobalization will, however, ensure our work remains challenging.”
Looking forward to the future, Pilatus said that without giving away any company secrets, it can confirm it is focusing its efforts on composite materials, engine technology, and digitalization in 2022.
