Pentastar Aviation breaks ground on ‘Hangar 1964’

Pentastar Aviation broke ground on its new facility, Hangar 1964, at the Oakland County International Airport (PTK). The new hangar pays homage to the company’s beginnings, founded in 1964 and offering nearly 60 years of premier private aviation services.

The new facility is close to Pentastar’s existing terminal and features a private aircraft hangar, passenger lounge, office complex, attached auxiliary areas and conference rooms. The construction will fully commence in Q3 2023 and is expected to be finished by late 2024. Sidock Group has been named the engineering, construction and architectural partner for the project.

“The success of Pentastar Aviation builds on a lasting legacy of excellence and a commitment to delivering exceptional services, which originates from our company’s beginnings in 1964,” Pentastar Aviation owner Edsel B. Ford II said. “Having been in the ownership seat for more than two decades, it is a point of pride for me to experience Pentastar’s remarkable growth and dedication to exceeding expectations at every touchpoint as we help people travel throughout the country and around the world.”

“This is a prime opportunity for us to embrace our future as we approach our 60th anniversary next year,” Pentastar Aviation President and CEO Greg Schmidt said. “Every Pentastar team member has a role in ensuring we bring our award-winning service and safety record to the forefront of each aviation experience we pilot. The future is bright, and we’re looking forward to sharing this experience with our customers and partners.”

The groundbreaking event included many special guests from Oakland County and the airport. Pentastar is proud to be the most awarded FBO in the world, offering complementary and support services for private jet charters, comprehensive aircraft management services, FBO services, full MRO services, in-house catering with Fivestar Gourmet and advisory services.

Pentastar will celebrate 60 years next year. It began as the internal flight department for the Chrysler Corporation and was renamed Pentastar Aviation in 1980. Its operations moved to Oakland County Airport in 1990 and in 1995 a new 103,000-square-foot maintenance facility opened for public business. Pentastar added a 48,000-square-foot hangar and 11,000-square-foot passenger terminal with its own commercial jetway in 2000. In 2001, it was bought by Ford, who remains the owner to this day.
