Battery provider for all-electric seaplane Noemi chosen at AirVenture


Elfly, the company building an all-electric seaplane, announced today at EAA AirVenture that it has chosen Electric Power Systems as the battery provider for the Noemi.

The companies announced the partnership for the research demonstrator program at AirVenture. Under the terms of the agreement, EPS will deliver the EPiC battery line for a demonstration to integrate upgradable energy solutions. The research initiative aims at producing an amphibious plane with 15 to 20 Noemi passenger-ready aircraft by 2030. EP Systems, a leading energy storage solutions provider, will provide its advanced battery systems to Elfly. The battery systems have demonstrated quality performance, safety and durability. These batteries will be the ideal choice for the research objective.

Elfly is a new customer in a growing list of aviation industry members. EPS customers include the FAA, Boeing, Diamond Aircraft, Plana, REGENT, Safran, Supernal, Ampaire, Aura Aero and VoltAero. The company also provides its electric powertrain system to Bell Helicopter’s hybrid Advanced Air Mobility aircraft the Bell Nexus and Boeing’s Cargo Air Vehicle.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Elfly on its pioneering research project,” EPS CEO Nathan Millecam said. “We are confident that our advanced battery technology will contribute significantly to the success of the project and we are excited to have been selected.”

Elfly revealed the design for the Noemi in June. Noemi stems from “no emissions,” and was designed for flexible mobility in Norway. The design was inspired by a boat, whose hull will allow the aircraft to takeoff using little power. The non-passenger prototype is being readied for flight in 2025. It is being designed for 124-mile air journeys at up to 155 mph in 2030.
