West Virginia Yeager Airport opens first Customs facility in the state
International travelers will soon be able to land in West Virginia as one airport prepares to open its new U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility, marking the only international port of entry in the entire state.
The West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW), the state’s busiest airport, received a name change effective at the beginning of the year. Previously known as the Yeager Airport, the “international” addition to the name was based on the construction of the new CBP facility adjacent to the airport’s general aviation terminal.
The Customs building could give the airport the option in the future to offer nonstop commercial air service to foreign destinations. While the inclusion of “international” in an airport’s name does not require it to offer these nonstop flights to foreign destinations, it does require “international” airports to offer Customs facilities.
With prior arrangements, the facility can be accessed around the clock. Once clearing the Customs facility, travelers can find first-class amenities and concierge services at Capital Jet Center, the Airport-operated FBO.
“We look forward to welcoming international visitors to our airport,” said West Virginia International Yeager Airport Director and CEO, Nick Keller. “With an easy to navigate facility, premium service and lower fuel prices, aircraft operators will be pleased they selected KCRW as their arrival port.”
