Tecnam announces new P-Mentor trainer aircraft


Tecnam has unveiled its latest aircraft – the Tecnam P-Mentor – a two-seat, low-wing, single-engine piston aircraft with a variable pitch propeller.

The IFR-capable P-Mentor received its EASA type certificate on April 7.

The low-wing, glass cockpit design was built to take student pilots from their flight through their instrument rating.

The P-Mentor features an all-new wing design, with a tapered planform with laminar flow airfoil and carbon fiber reinforced polymers. This design allowed the aircraft to pass the latest EASA CS-23 Amendment requirements for low speed and stall characteristics without a ballistic recovery system (BRS), although BRS is approved and available as an option on the aircraft.

The aircraft is powered by a low-emissions Rotax 912iSC engine. According to Tecnam, this is the first IFR-approved aircraft that features this engine, offering the lowest fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in its class. Emissions are nearly 60% lower than its IFR-capable competitors.

The P-Mentor cockpit features a Garmin G3x glass cockpit with Garmin GI 275 as back-up instrument and multiple configurations to allow PBN/RNAV, as well as GFCTM 500 autopilot training.

Simulated retractable gear control has also been added.

“I am sure this new design will revitalize the Trainer market, helping many flight schools to remain competitive and profitable and making new student pilots happier and more proficient,” says Tecnam’s Managing Director, Giovanni Pascale. “Real sustainability, fuel economy and profitability start here.”

Tecnam said that a few training organizations have already pre-ordered the P-Mentor.

The pricing for the aircraft has not been announced, but it will be on display at AERO Friedrichshafen on April 27.
