JSX becomes first air carrier to offer SpaceX Starlink inflight WiFi
JSX, a Dallas-based charter operator, has signed a deal with SpaceX to bring Starlink satellite internet to its fleet of private jets.
The company posted the announcement to its social media channels last week, suggesting the first aircraft equipped with inflight connectivity could fly as early as this year.
“JSX is proud to be the first air carrier to adopt SpaceX Starlink internet inflight, free for every customer onboard,” the announcement said. “We’d call it the best in Wi-Fi in the sky, but it’s actually the greatest in the galaxy – coming later this year.”
Alex Wilcox, JSX CEO, confirmed to CNBC that the company’s agreement with SpaceX will cover up to 100 aircraft. Its fleet currently consists of 77 30-seat Embraer E135 and E145 jets.
“Our customers have repeatedly asked us when we would offer inflight Wi-Fi, and we’ve said that we’ll do it when we find the best product in the world,” said Wilcox.
JSX says it is working closely with SpaceX to certify, test, and outfit its fleet of jets as it awaits regulatory approval.
SpaceX has launched nearly 2,000 Starlink satellites since its founding, focusing on an aviation-specific Starlink antenna last year.
