Textron donates Pipistrel Velis Electro to auction at EAA AirVenture

Textron eAviation is donating a Pipistrel Velis Electro, the world’s first type-certified electric-powered aircraft, to the EAA auction during AirVenture. The donation will support various EAA charitable programs including the efforts to introduce youth to aviation.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is the world’s largest fly-in convention, taking place this year from July 24-30. Over 10,000 aircraft and 600,000 attendees are welcomed in Oshkosh, Wisconsin every summer, joining to enjoy all things aviation and admire aircraft from around the world.

The Pipistrel Velis Electro was designed and manufactured by Pipistrek, a Textron company. The aircraft is expected to be the big prize at the auction, which will feature about 20 items. The auction will raise funds for programs like the EAA’s Young Eagles, which offers free airplane rides to youth ages 8-17 since 1992.

The electric aircraft is type-certified by the EASA and is under an experimental license in the U.S. currently. The Velis Electro produces zero emissions during operation and is quiet inside and out, with noise levels at only 60 dBa. The aircraft will be on static display at AirVenture as well as in the auction. Attendees can place a bid at the event or arrange proxy bidding with the EAA Aviation Foundation beforehand.
