The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in is just 60 days and 10 hours away at this moment, but who is counting, right? While you’re preparing your camping checklist (or preparing to prepare your checklist), refreshing your screens for the air show lineup, or scoping out the AirVenture delicacies, you should also familiarize yourself with the updated EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022 Notice.
If you’ve flown into AirVenture in years past, you will have heard the document referred to as the Oshkosh NOTAM, but a recent modernization initiative by the FAA has changed the name.
The FAA has approved several changes for the arrival and departure procedures for the 69th annual convention, which will be taking place from July 25-31 at Wittman Regional Airport (OSH).
Some of the 2022 changes include two decommissioned VORs (RFD and MBL) and several changed IFR routings. Also, if you had planned on cowboy camping under the wing of your aircraft at Appleton International Airport (ATW), you’ll need to make other plans as it is no longer allowed this year.
The ATC-assignable transition points approaching Oshkosh from the west will ease holding and will be in effect again this year. These points will be at Endeavor Bridge, Puckaway Lake, and Green Lake. They will be announced on the arrival ATIS when ATC activates them at times of highest traffic.
“The most essential information for any pilot flying to Oshkosh involves reading and thoroughly understanding the 2022 AirVenture Notice to ensure safe operations on arrival and departure,” said Sean Elliott, EAA’s vice president of advocacy and safety.
The EAA is also encouraging pilots to log cross-country time before the trip to Oshkosh.
