A new general aviation airport in Oak Ridge, Tennessee is receiving $11 million from the state’s 2023 budget to begin purchasing land.
The airport will sit on 200 acres of land at the East Tennessee Technology Park and feature a 5,000-foot runway to support general aviation in the region as companies look to fill vacancies at the 1,300-acre technology park.
Based on a 2018 estimate, the project will cost $55 million and will include funding from local and federal sources.
An Environmental Assessment and Preliminary Engineering study is currently being prepared as the city moves one step closer to breaking ground on the project.
According to the city, the goal is to have the airport completed and aircraft in the air by 2025.
